Deliberations for the 2016 Chatham-Kent budget are set to take place this week January 26, 27, 28 and run into next week February 2, 3, 4 at the Civic Centre in Chatham.

Administration is proposing a 3.29% tax increase after presenting the draft budget and they are also recommending a total of $900,000 worth of service cuts.

Among those cuts are:

– Closure of the Bothwell Arena

– Closure of the Brunner Centre in Thamesville

– Closure of the Ridgetown Youth Centre

– Closure of the Tilbury and Bothwell scout huts

– Closure of Jaycee Pool

– Elimination of the Communities in Bloom program and position

Staff is also proposing to eliminate public works support for various community special events, which would have a negative effect on Wallaceburg’s signature event – WAMBO.

Council will also deal with a motion to provide $1.5M in funding to the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campuses proposed Ontario Sustainable Crop Research and Innovation Centre.

While things could change as the deliberations unfold, what do you think is the biggest issue in the 2016 Chatham-Kent budget?
