Update: Murder charge laid after transport fire

A first degree murder charge has been laid in connection with a transport fire on the 402.

Members of the Lambton County OPP responded to a vehicle fire on January 31, 2016 at 3:15 a.m. on the westbound lanes of the 402 Highway near the Camlachie Road overpass.

The body of a 37-year-old Gurpreet K. Brar from Brampton Ontario was discovered in the burnt vehicle.

The victim was sent to the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Services in Toronto for further examination.

Members of the Lambton County OPP under the direction of Detective Inspector Heidi Stewart of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch continued to investigate the circumstances pertaining to the fire and subsequent death.

As a result of the investigation, the OPP has charged 50-year-old Sukhchain Singh Brar, also from Brampton with first degree murder.

He will appear in Sarnia court on Thursday, February 4, 2016 to answer to the charge.
