The Chatham-Kent PUC announced yesterday, first at their regular meeting and then at a public meeting in Wallaceburg, that their “preferred solution” for the future of Wallaceburg’s drinking water is to stay with the status quo – rehabilitating the Wallaceburg Water Treatment Plant using the existing intake in the Snye River.
While the recommendation has been made by the PUC staff, the decision won’t be set in stone until the Commissioners vote on the item.
A special meeting is scheduled for March 2, time and location TBA.
Wallaceburg Coun. Jeff Wesley said he plans on bringing the motion forward at the meeting.
Wesley said he is confident his fellow PUC members will go along with the recommendation.
“At the end of the meeting we had… they knew that was the community’s choice,” Wesley said.
“They said basically, oh well, there goes the reason for a public meeting because you are going to get what you want with community support. I said ‘if you are saying that on March 2nd you support 2A, than you are correct. If you are not, than the meeting today is extremely important.'”
Wesley and Wallaceburg Coun. Carmen McGregor are encouraging people in the community to contact the members of the PUC.
“You don’t want to count on anything until it is signed, sealed and delivered but right now it is looking very positive for us,” McGregor said. “I hope they contact the Commissioners and they get the word out there that they share that with their friends and family.”

My wife, Sharon Punnewaert, submitted a vote in favour of 2A, but when she attempted to send a second vote in for me, there was a message saying they had already counted her vote. Do you not allow for two votes per household? Your voting form should have the ability to record a name of the person voting, and then a return message sent out if someone attempts to vote twice.
