A Wallaceburg team hasn’t advanced to the OMHA finals since 2008. This year’s Minor Midget Lakers squad is on the verge of changing that.

The Lakers lead the Lincoln Blades 2-0 in their Ontario Minor Hockey Association playdown semi-finals series, as they hit the road for the first two games last weekend.

The team faced off for Game 1 on Saturday afternoon, and skated to a 3-1 victory.

Kyle Hooper scored a pairs of goals, while Elijah Contreras scored the other.

Ethan Cadotte was stellar in net for the Lakers.

The Lakers returned to the rink in Lincoln for Game 2 on Sunday.

The game ended in a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, with Contreras scoring the lone goal for the Lakers.

The game moved to sudden death overtime.

Hooper was the hero once again, scoring the game winning goal 40 second into the extra frame.

Brady Johnston provided excellent goaltending for the Lakers.

Game 3 of the OMHA semi-final series will shift to Wallaceburg.

The game will be held at 7:20 p.m. at the Wallaceburg Arena.

Game 4 is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The team is hoping to fill Wallaceburg Memorial Arena in support of the boys.
