For the first time in 12 years, there is a new champion in the Sunday morning Wallaceburg Rec Hockey League.
The Whalers upset the 11-time champion DSR squad in two straight games in the best-of-three championship series.
The Whalers won 5-1 in Game 1 and 2-1 in Game 2.
“A lot of us have been playing together over the last decade and we have lost repeatedly to this team that has been on top with 11 in a row,” said Kevin Mitchell, one of the players on the Whalers.
“This was the first year we were finally able to climb the mountain and beat them.”
