The Chatham-Kent OPP and Chatham-Kent Police Service were involved in a “high risk” traffic stop, after handguns were spotted inside a pick-up truck.

Police officials say on March 29, just after 4:00 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a complaint involving a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling southbound on Highway 40 near Highway 401.

The vehicle entered onto Highway 401 eastbound.

Information received was that male parties within the vehicle were allegedly observed shooting handguns outside the vehicle window.

The vehicle exited the highway at Kent Bridge Road and continued into Ridgetown.

Chatham-Kent OPP officers along with Chatham-Kent Police Service officers located the vehicle in Ridgetown.

A high risk traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and five males were arrested.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and police located toy imitation firearms within the vehicle.

All five males were released and cautioned on the carelessness of their actions.

No charges were laid.
