The Walpole Island Ferry has been shut down since late last week, but it is expected to be up and running by Thursday.
James Jenkins, political advisor to Walpole Island’s chief and council, said the manager of the ferry had to deal with a personal issue, which forced the ferry to be shut down before the long weekend.
Jenkins said a routine inspection by Transport Canada needs to take place before the ferry, which runs on the St. Clair River between Walpole island First Nation and Algonac Michigan, can get back up and running.
“The inspection is set to take place on Wednesday,” Jenkins said.
“We’re aiming to have it back on schedule on Thursday.”
Walpole-Algonac Ferry Ltd. has been in operation for over 100 years.

Did the ferry ever resume service? Would be a shame if after 100 years it had to stop!
