The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance have been delivering pamphlets to local mailboxes featuring “The Facts.”

The two-sided, glossy, card stock handout included statistics, graphics, and flow charts with a title “The Facts” located underneath their logo.

The first side features the sub-title “Emergency Department: Top 10 Performer When It Matters Most.

“Patients who need a bed get one in 1/3 the time it takes most other Ontario hospitals,” the pamphlet reads.

A flow chart shows an arrow pointing upwards, and an improvement in the overall ranking of 74 Ontario EDs, 49th to 29th, from 2013 to 2015.

A “15 point improvement in overall ED performance in one year,” the pamphlet reads, which references Ontario’s Emergency Department Pay for Performance for this information.

“CKHA ranks 3rd of 74 hospitals for Emergency Department (ED) Length of Stay for patients admitted.”

The bottom of the page features CKHA’s website, with Facebook and Twitter logos, along with the tagline “Stay Informed From The Source.”

The other side of the pamphlet features a subtitle: “A Focus On The Cost Of Administration.

“CKHA’s administrative costs continue to trend downwards,” the pamphlet reads.

A flow chart features an arrow pointing downwards showing 8.6% in ’13/’14, 7% in ’14/’15 and 5.7% in ’15/’16.

“2015/2016 data shows administrative costs 18% lower from the previous year,” the pamphlet states, referencing the Canadian Institute For Health Information.

The bottom of the page features what appears to be cartoon health professionals, with the tagline above it: “It Takes A Team!”

Residents in Wallaceburg, Dresden and Chatham told the Sydenham Current they received the pamphlet in their mailbox.

Messages to the CKHA sent Monday evening, about the distribution of the pamphlets and cost, were not immediately answered.

If you didn’t receive it in your mailbox, here is a scanned copy:

  1. I am still waiting on a response about administrative costs. It is so easy to change where you categorize expenses, shift some services to third parties, or just simply have some costs rise at a faster rate than administration giving the illusion that they are “cutting costs”. Sure there is a chance they have reduced administrative costs making smarter decisions, but far more likely is that they are using math to make the “facts” look more favourable.

  2. Poor use of Health Care dollars when we are in a deficit .Why are they spending money trying to justify and glorify their administration.

  3. not only CKHA but also the provincial Liberals advertisements ,need to kick Liberals out in the next election and the next 20 years

  4. First off I see this pamphlet as a big waste of money, second did you use Wallaceburg,s stats to boost Chathams ER numbers, third did admin cost go down or did the rest just catch up,as it looks like admin cost have been too high for years. In the end it all looks like a desperate attempt to fudge the numbers to justify closing Wallaceburg’s ER when in fact if it closed Chatham could not handle the extra influx of E R patients. In all I call bull s–t !

  5. Figures don’t lie but liars figure . Once again CKHA is patting themselves on their back. Just keep in mind who is providing the data and costs and taking our precious health care dollars to present this useless self gratifying propaganda . Unfortunately the public will never be able to do an audit to verify any of this . Don’t believe a word of what the Alliance spins.

  6. Thats Well AND Good BUT NO MENTION of the REAL reason their is A PROBLEM and LACK of communication between the TWO BOARDS
YES I said two boards (one in Wallaceburg and one in chatham) St Joes Does NOT Exists Has NOT For A Long Time
