An estimated $30,000 damage was caused after a garage fire in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent fire officials say firefighters responded to 95 Edwy Street in Wallaceburg on July 25 at around 2 p.m.

“Crews worked quickly in very tough conditions to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading to the homes on either side and the trailer parked in front of the garage,” stated Chris Case, assistant fire chief.

“Weather conditions were very hot this afternoon making operations arduous.”

While $30,000 damage was caused, about $200,000 worth of property was saved.

The blaze was ruled accidental.

“Welding creates very hot sparks and should be carried out in a clear area to prevent ignition of surrounding materials,” Case said in a press release.

“Always check for any signs of heat and have a fire extinguisher close by to deal with any problems.”

Firefighters from Station #3 Wallaceburg and Station #2 Chatham battledĀ the fire.
