There is a new way to keep up to date with the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing this year, and it is through social media.

WAMBO has started up a Facebook page and a Twitter handle for their annual event, which is taking place this upcoming weekend Friday, August 12, Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14.

“It’s an excellent way for us to keep everyone up to date with what is happening with WAMBO,” said Aaron Hall, WAMBO’s new fundraising manager.

“It is also a great way for us to generate a buzz in the community about Wallaceburg’s signature event.”

Hall, who owns the Sydenham Current, said the online newspaper teamed up with ScreenArt in Wallaceburg to hold a special contest by utilizing WAMBO’s new social media channels.

“The contest went over extremely well,” Hall said.

“ScreenArt designed some sweet looking commemorative WAMBO 28 T-shirts, and we helped spread the word and reach through social media in order to give them away.”

Throughout WAMBO weekend, Hall said he is encouraging people to use the hashtag #WAMBO28 when posted to Facebook and Twitter.

“We want to share in everyone’s excitement about WAMBO,” he said.

“We’ll do our best to share or Re-Tweet people’s photos that they post throughout the weekend. By using the #WAMBO28 hashtag, this can be an easy and fun way to keep track of all the posts.”

Over the past couple months, Hall said WAMBO used Facebook and Twitter to recognize the countless sponsors who have come on board to support the 28th annual event.

“Having just recently come on board with the WAMBO committee, it was amazing to see the business community in Wallaceburg and surrounding area come on board and support the event through sponsorship,” Hall said.

“It is a true testament to everyone involved with WAMBO for their hard work and dedication over the years. When going around town and speaking with business owners and managers, it was clear the vast majority of people are excited about WAMBO, they’re looking forward to attending once again and it is always circled and highlighted in people’s calendars.”

Coming on board this year as presenting sponsors for WAMBO was mPower Electric, Crabby Joe’s and E.R. Schepens Electric.

“WAMBO is always a free event for the community,” Hall said.

“It is truly the support of the community through sponsorship that allows this to happen year in and year out. I’m proud to see fellow business owners doing their part and ensuring WAMBO continues to grow and succeed. Community minded businesses like mPower Electric, Crabby Joe’s and E.R. Schepens are fine examples of this… they’ve stepped up in a huge way.”
