The Wallaceburg Legion Br. 18 is ready for annual busy night on Friday for their annual steak during, which helps kick-off WAMBO weekend.

Peter Polkinghorne, a Legion executive member, said tickets are available at the Legion bar.

“The bar is open on a regular basis everyday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Obviously we are getting to the last week here so we would like to know by Thursday, so we have an idea on numbers.”

Polkinghorne said tickets will be on sale right up to the start time which is about 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

The meal consists of steak, fresh cob of corn, coleslaw, potato, rolls with butter or course, pickles, and dessert.

Cost is $15.

Polkinghorne said Gord and Dee Heath are heading up the steak dinner, while Dave Lozon will be handling the barbecuing duties.

Polkinghorne said volunteers are always welcome.

“If there is somebody that has some time available, if they want to help serving and so forth, then sure, they are always welcome to help,” he said. Anyone interested can call 519-627-6663.

Polkinghorne said there will be entertainment at the Legion all weekend long.

“Just because of the numbers we are expecting, probably over 200, there won’t be any dance because the whole upstairs hall will be taken up with places for people to sit down and have something to eat,” he said.

“You can eat outside if you want. There are picnic tables. Outside will be the band Unity. A live band that is in and around this area and we have used them a number of times and will continue to use them because they seem quite popular at the Legion. They play just about whatever you want them to play. They mix things up very, very well. They are not stuck on country or stuck on hard rock, they move gradually through anything you want them to play.”

Polkinghorne said the fun continues on Saturday afternoon.

“We have Classic Vibe, another live band that is known in this area that will be playing in the patio area all afternoon,” he said.

The barbecues will be going in the beverage area at the Legion and will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages and the deep fryers.

“There is a bar outside too,” Polkinghorne said. “We will have the umbrellas out for over the picnic tables and we have an extended bar area around the side of the Legion, not just at the back.”

“We are really looking forward to the weekend as I think everybody in town is. We hope to help entice people into town and take advantage of what the committee has put together for everyone. I really look forward to it. A lot of people look at WAMBO as a reunion time. A lot of people don’t see each other through the year and it’s really nice to see them sitting down. Wherever they are sitting, if it’s at the Legion or in one of the restaurants downtown visiting and getting reacquainted.”
