An ever-growing feature at the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing is the activities on the south side of Wallaceburg.

The Sydenham Current caught up with Wayne Barnier, the manager of the south side for WAMBO, to describe what is happening on the other side of the walking bridge on WAMBO weekend.

Lots of fun for kids

“We have a lot of the same stuff. We have got soap box races, we have got an old jet coming there, where you can get up and climb up into it,” Barnier said.

“Coming back for the second year we have got some exotic animals. Kids can go and pick up big snakes, tortoises and stuff like that. We have got the usual ‘bouncies’ for the kids. We have a big 50 foot one and a 20×20 bouncy for the kids. We have the train display from Dave Ladore and some food vendors as well.”

Cardboard boat races

“This year for the second time we are having cardboard boat races,” Barnier said.

“That has taken off like you wouldn’t believe. As of right now, 12 boats have been registered and the whole cardboard boat race has been sponsored by Home Hardware. So that is a real big plus.”

“It is going to be around 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. We have got lots going on, so we are trying to coordinate all of the timing. With that being said, the cardboard boat racing is a big thing.”

Dedications

“Prior to the cardboard boat races we are going to have the re-dedication of the walking bridge,” he said.

“Local councillors and people that have helped with getting the bridge done. So we are going to have a really cunning ceremony I guess you want to call it. That is going to be cool.”

50’s/60’s show

“One of the big things that we are really happy to be doing this year is a 50’s / 60’s show,” said Barnier.

“We have got nine entertainers that are singing 50’s/ 60’s songs. We are doing two shows. The first show on Saturday morning is going to be at about 10:45 a.m. So we are going to run it about an hour hopefully and than we will go into the bridge re-dedication. Then there is going to be an afternoon show around 2:30 p.m. So we have two 50’s/60’s shows going on. We are getting pretty excited about. These singers really gel together.”

CK Tree Care

“Chatham-Kent Tree Care, Greg Pilecki is putting on a really nice display with his new equipment for tree trimming,” Barnier said.

“If all goes well, he is going to be repelling from the top of his man lift which is 60 feet up. So that should be interesting. We don’t know what time. That is one of the things we are working on to get things scheduled in.”

Custom Bikes

“Another thing that went over well last year and is coming back this year is custom bicycles,” said Bariner.

“It went over really good last year. Steve Boudreau has contacted his friends and some of these bikes are pretty nice bikes. We were talking int he thousands of dollars that guys have customized these things.”

Foster’s pig

“Another program that we are really excited about this year is Foster’s Meat Market, I am not sure if you have seen the pig that they have outside? That is being hidden all around Wallaceburg and if you see the pig around you go on Facebook and register to Foster’s and than your name is put in hat. You can do this up to five times because wherever you find the pig you just private message them. If you find it all five days than you have 5 different chances,” Barnier said.

“Friday night, the pig may be in the dream cruise. I am going to set it up so he can ride around in the dream cruise. Than come Saturday we will do a draw for a $100 gift certificate for Foster’s Meats. So that is going to get the people out and about in Wallaceburg. They won’t only be looking for Pokeman but they will be looking for the pig. So we are quite excited about that. Foster’s come on board with that contest. So Saturday morning we are doing that draw.”

Home Hardware

“We are quite excited about it and the cardboard boat races too,” Barnier said. “There has been quite a response. So Les and the gang at Home Hardware really stepped up to help and get that going. He asked what we needed for the race. If you preregistered to build a boat he gives a discount on duct tape. So that’s pretty cool.”
