The Maple City Citizen’s On Patrol group are once again volunteering their services to the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing.

Tom Shivers, the coordinator for the group, said they started helping out at WAMBO when Chip Gordon was involved.

“We are an all volunteer group out of Chatham. We do a lot of work by basically supplying man power and communications for any organization that will need us. We originally started doing it when Chip Gordon was doing it. We started with Chip and than when he left, Bill (Wolsing) got a hold of us and we have been coming out here ever since.”

Shivers said Maple City Citizen’s On Patrol also has volunteered at the Tilbury Fun Fest, the Kinsmen Fair in Chatham, events for the Dover Kinsmen, Boothill Jamboree, VON events, and more.

“We are all volunteers and the group has our own trailer, we have our own radio communications set up,” he said.

“We are basically a safety and prevention group. We can’t say we are security because we are not licensed. We just keep an eye on stuff. We will be here all night and I have another crew coming in tomorrow morning.”

Shivers and his crew arrived in Wallaceburg on Thursday evening.

“We have about 14 or 15 volunteers. We are always looking for new members,” Shivers said.

“I am retired correctional officer and my son he is a security guard at Meritor. He is the President of the group. We just have regular volunteers, whoever wants to help and likes doing it. We will take them on. We are available for any group that needs us.”

If you are interested in getting involved, give Shivers a call at 519-351-5602.
