A Dresden teen showed a tremendous amount of courage this past weekend when competing in the wrestling competition at 2016 Ontario Summer Games in Mississauga.

Jaykob Lessard, 16, wrestled in the 115kg category and overpowered all four of his opponents enroute to the championship.

Only 12 seconds into the final match, his opponent took him down on the mat and Lessard’s arm was caught underneath his body resulting in a triple fracture of the lower left arm.

He was transported to Credit Valley Hospital and underwent surgery a few hours later.

Lessard’s coach accepted his silver medal on his behalf and his bronze team medal before driving to the hospital to present them to him.

Lessard remained in great spirits through the entire ordeal and while waiting for surgery asked, “How is the team doing?”

Lessard represented the area on the Southwestern Ontario Team. In total, six regions competed, including: Eastern Ontario, North West Ontario, North East Ontario, Central East Ontario, Central West Ontario, South West Ontario.
