During the Labour Day weekend, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is partnering in a family event, called Grassy 2 ROCK, showcasing water recreation activities at Mitchell’s Bay on Saturday, Sept. 3.
The concert event begins at 12 p.m. and will feature local bands playing on a barge located in the Grassy area of the lake, where the shallow water allows boaters to anchor. The featured bands include Toast & Jam, The Shake Band, Southwind Buoys and Face 4 Radio, and 99.1 FM CKXS will be broadcasting live at the event.
There is also sandbars in the surrounding area for swimming and other recreational activities.
Boaters from the U.S. and Canada are invited to attend this free event.
The concert line-up is as follows:
12-1:30 p.m. – The Shake Band
1:30-3 p.m. – Southwind Buoys
3-4:30 p.m. – Toast & Jam
4:30–6 p.m. – Face 4 Radio
Boaters must be aware of relevant laws, rules and regulations and adhere to them, such as:
• Swimming and boating at own risk
• Boaters should have proper insurance and licence
• Wear lifejackets
• No alcohol permitted
• In the event of bad weather, the event will be cancelled
• Boaters should be aware of conditions and use their own judgment
• Safety information is available from the following organizations: Ontario Provincial Police, Chatham Kent Police Service and Transport Canada
The Municipality accepts no liability, therefore, those attending the event do so at their own risk.

Grassy Event – Safety Protocols
Chatham-Kent is pleased to host the Sept. 3 Grassy 2 ROCK event that will be held on the traditional waterways of Walpole Island First Nation. The family-friendly event will serve as a great way to celebrate the Labour Day weekend, while showcasing the recreational opportunities surrounding Chatham-Kent.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent accepts no liability for this event. The Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s administration will observe the following safety protocols to enhance the safety of those attending the Grassy 2 ROCK event.
The event will be cancelled if any of the following situations pose a threat to participants and participants will be encouraged to head to shore, including:
– An electrical / severe rain storm.
– Bad weather that may include rough water.
– Behaviour that creates a safety hazard to participants.
– Unlawful use of alcohol.
Participants must also accept personal responsibility when participating in this event. There is an inherent risk of participating in boating / water related events that cannot be mitigated.
All participants are responsible for observing the legal requirements of operating a boat in open water, such ensuring there are personal floatation devices and the required safety equipment onboard the boat.
Participants are reminded that there are also legal restrictions regarding consuming alcohol while boating.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and local Coast Guard authorities have been notified about the Grassy event and they expect to be present throughout the day to ensure the legal requirements are respected.
