Morning Coffee – By Aaron Hall
I have to tip my hat this morning to the volunteer directors of the now former Sydenham District Hospital committee.
In the 10-plus years that I have been working in the news industry, I’ve never covered such an elaborate, on-going, and important issue as this hospital saga in the community.
At the centre of it all, has always been the SDH board.
Their dedication, relentless perseverance, toughness and community spirit has shone during times that often looked bleak for the future of the hospital in Wallaceburg. If it wasn’t for their work and determination, I don’t believe the investigator’s report by Bonnie Adamson ever would have been ordered and Mr. Devitt would never have been brought in as the supervisor.
While they no longer have an official capacity with the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance – as the new CKHA supervisor has assumed the role of corporation, members, board and board officers – I believe we have not seen or heard from these folks for the last time.
The members of the former board did leave their roles with some parting words on Thursday evening, and we’ll be sharing that on the Sydenham Current.
I’d like to wish them all the best moving forward and I’d also like to wish Mr. Devitt well as he dives into his new role.
The feedback we’ve gotten from him, and our first impressions after meeting him last night, is positive and appears genuine.
We’re looking forward to seeing this issue come full circle and result in a positive conclusion.
