The Port Lambton Pirates OBA Minor Mosquito “B” team had a successful OBA tournament in Cobourg, Ontario from September 2-4.
The defending OBA Rookie “D” champions from last year moved up to compete in the OBA Minor Mosquito “B” Champion Tournament.
The Pirates kick-started their tournament with a win against the Welland Mustangs on Friday evening.
On Saturday morning with superior pitching and a shutdown defense the Pirates bats exploded and they cruised to a mercy win over the Essex Yellowjackets in just three innings.
This earned them a bye and set up an undefeated showdown game against the Simcoe Giants which saw the Pirates suffer their 1st lost of the tournament.
On Sunday, with their backs against the wall, the Pirates could not suffer another loss in the double knockout tournament.
They Started their day with an impressive 5 inning mercy over the tournament host Northumberland Jacks.
In the other quarterfinal game the Dorchester Diamondbacks handed Simcoe their 1st lost of the tournament, however Simcoe won the coin flip earning a bye to the championship game.
That setup a semi-final game where Port Lambton beat Dorchester earning a winner take all re-match against Simcoe.
After a hard fought 7 inning game Port Lambton fell to a strong Simcoe team in the Championship Final.
The tournament concluded an outstanding year from the Port Lambton Pirates which saw them have success both during league games and tournaments.
They won the London Tecumseh tournament in July which featured strong clubs from A and AA centers. Congratulations on an excellent season.
