A former principal at both LKCS in Dresden and WDSS in Wallaceburg, has died.

Ewan Wilson lost a courageous battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy on September 13. He was 77.

Upon graduation in 1967, WIlson began his teaching career at the newly built Lambton-Kent Composite School, where he taught biology and environmental sciences, inspiring many students to pursue careers in these fields, his obituary states.

Wilson then became vice principal at Wallaceburg District Secondary School and Chatham-Kent Secondary School, before returning to LKCS as principal. After a career of 30 years in education, he retired as principal from WDSS.

“Many thanks to those special caregivers at Meadow Park Nursing Home, CKHA and Bayshore who kept Ewan smiling throughout his illness,” his obituary states.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beth, three sons and eight grandchildren.

“Ewan was a great man and will be fondly remembered by many,” wrote Bonnie French, on an online condolence page setup by the Thomas L. DeBurger Funeral Home.

“I was providing some Physiotherapy coverage at MeadowPark over the last year and on one occasion I recall telling Ewan that he had been the best teacher I had ever had. My comment induced a huge smile from him so I am quite sure he understood,” wrote Ken Higgs.

“A great teacher and a super human being,” wrote Blaine Yandt.

The new sports field in Dresden was recently named after Wilson.

Back in January, the Lambton-Kent District School Board unanimously supported a motion brought forth by LKCS, where the newly constructed main playing field of the Lambton-Kent Community Sports Field, will forever be referred to as the ‘Wilson Pitch’ in honour of the late educator.

Visitation will take place at the Thomas L. DeBurger Funeral Home at 620 Cross St. in Dresden on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wilson’s family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Blackburn Cemetery, A.L.S. Society of (Windsor) Essex County or Dresden Food Bank.

  1. One of the best, I wasn’t a good student in high school but Mr. Wilson always treated me like a good student, helped me with a few things after high school too. I always respected Mr. Wilson and he always treated me like someone he cared about.
    He will be missed
