The 2nd annual Wallaceburg Pumpkinfest is taking place this weekend at the Wallaceburg Kinsmen Centre.

Grab a drink in the refreshment tent and watch the ‘Just Country Boys’ perform in the beer tent.

“They actually may be running a bit of jamboree,” said Eric Hancock, event organizer and Wallaceburg Kinsmen member.

“We are letting them do their own thing. They will be playing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hancock said the Wallaceburg Kinsmen will also be partnering with the Growers and Throwers this year.

“They are coordinating the competition,” he said.

“They will be handling the weigh-off and we are supplying the prize money. Last year we had some from as far away as Toronto. Actually after the Pumpkin Fest here, there is another one up North and we got a lot of feedback from people up there that they really loved the way we did it in Wallaceburg… that we did it right.”

Hancock added: “So we are really hoping that we get more pumpkins this year. I think last year we had 18. That’s pretty good for the first year. The biggest was a little over 1300 pounds.”

Hancock said the participants drop off their pumpkins in the morning to get weighed, and the competition ends at around 3 p.m.

“Then we award the prizes after that,” he said.

Hancock said there will also be a 50/50 draw at 4 p.m. and the winner doesn’t have to be there for the draw.

The Kinsmen will be running a refreshment tent during the event.
