A pair of women have teamed up and brought their businesses together under one roof in Chatham, forming The Mercantile.
The business is located at 15 Maple Leaf Dr. in Chatham, and is composed of Country Comforts, owned by Bailey Myers, and Put It Together Quilt Shop, owned by Linda Mifflin. They also offer a line of fusion mineral based paint and products.
Bailey said Country Comfort offers a selection of primitive, vintage and rustic home decor.
“Your unique, one-of-a-kind treasures from hardware, to candles, to picture frames. We have a whole line of old fashion candy and some homemade jams and jellies.
Bailey said they also have got a new line of Amish furniture.
“It comes in three different colours,” she said.
“Now we have a select variety in store but then it’s by order as well. If you wanted to customize your piece, there is a few customize options available for that too.”
Bailey said her business used to be located on Barth Street in Chatham.
They will be holding a grand opening at The Mercantile on Oct. 1.
“It is our official grand opening of The Mercantile which, is also doubling as my second anniversary of Country Comforts.”
She added: At Country Comforts during the opening, everything is going to be tax free. So there will be a tax free sale for Country Comforts products only. The exceptions would be the Put It Together Quilt Shop products and the fusion mineral paint. So we are also doing kind of like a raffle or a door prize kind of draw and we are hoping for a charity barbecue where all the funds raised will go towards P.A.W.R.
Linda said you can expect an array of fabric, colours and choices at the Put It Together Quilt Shop portion of the store.
Linda said if someone just started and doesn’t know how to quilt, they can help.
“I have classes for all ages from beginner to expert,” she said, adding that they can call 519-354-1110 to inquire about classes.
“We will have all of the classes, the dates and the times will be set by the beginning of October and then our first classes will start later in the month.”
During the Oct. 1 open house, she will have a handy quilter on display.
“The handy quilter long arm machine, which we will be the only full service, long arm dealership in this area,” she said.
“So we will not only quilt your quilt for you, but we are going to have classes so that you can learn how to do your quilts yourself. We have a handy quilter rep coming from Florida that said she is going to arrive with a suitcase full of surprises.”
Linda added: “We have an assortment of fabric and then I am also carrying a specialty wool line. I have alpaca and lama wool that I am carrying and I’m also carrying the Lang calendars.”
