Significant rainfall is on the way in Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Chatham-Kent, as frequent showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to affect the regions into Friday.

The showers will become quite heavy at times.

Rainfall amounts of 35 to 60 mm are forecast by tomorrow evening in many places, with the heaviest rain likely falling tonight and Thursday morning.

The area is being monitored for a potential rainfall warning.

Caution is advised tonight and Thursday due to ponding of water on roads, and potentially fast flowing creeks.

The rain is being produced by a slow moving low pressure system over the Ohio Valley.

Environment Canada officials are asking the public to monitor alerts and forecasts issued.

To report severe weather, send an email to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ONStorm.
