Wallaceburg District Secondary School, including the Grade 7 and 8’s, will be participating in their annual Terry Fox walk/run on Wednesday morning.

“Our school event follows Terry’s goal in spreading awareness about cancer through education and to help raise funds to end cancer for all,” said Nancy Schinkelshoek, teacher at WDSS.

“We have organized a Terry Fox event at our school since 2007 and have raised over $6,500 in that time. Our goal this year is to reach a donation of $2 per student.”

Schinkelshoek said they have also playing announcements produced by the Terry Fox Foundation each day this week leading up to the event.

“They provide a bit about Terry’s story and why he decided to run across Canada and have audio clips from Terry Fox and his brother Fred,” she said.

The school is joining together for a short assembly before walking a 3km route through Crother’s Park.

“WDSS is proud to say that Terry Fox lives here,” Schinkelshoek said.
