The Chatham-Kent Police Service recognizes that with an aging population in our municipality there is a continued need for cooperation with its citizens especially when it comes to those vulnerable persons within our community. That’s why the CKPS has launched an online initiative that will allow for police to access important information about these vulnerable persons who may pose a risk to themselves or the community.
The CKPS Vulnerable Persons Registry is an online tool that will allow both caregivers and family members to submit vital information to the police if they feel that someone under their care is at a risk due to a physical, medical or mental health condition. If later on police become involved with a person is who registered in the online system, they will have quick access to this vital information allowing officers to respond quickly and effectively.
The registry is free of charge and open to anyone in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. A parent or guardian, or other legal authority of a vulnerable person, may register individuals who are unable to do so themselves. Once registered, the person will remain on the registry until removal is requested. The registry will be reviewed and updated yearly with any change in circumstance or personal information.
The registry provides critical information such as a person’s description, routines, medical needs, favourite attractions, special needs and emergency contact information should an emergency arise. Families and caregivers are encouraged to also submit a digital photo of the vulnerable person with their online registration and to update their file online every year on the birth month of the registrant.
The information is stored in a secure database that is accessible to police across the country, giving caregivers and parents piece of mind should they travel with the vulnerable person outside of Chatham-Kent.
Citizens across Chatham-Kent are encouraged to visit our website for more information. The link may be found at http://ckpolice.com/vulnerable-persons-registry/
