Celebrate the events worth celebrating

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Today is a very special day for my family, as it is the 80th birthday of my mom.

My dad died over 28 years ago and my mom has carried on bravely in her widowhood.

It has not always been easy but she has soldiered on and been a wonderful matriarch to the family.

WE are looking forward to a nice dinner with her later today to celebrate this great milestone.

She didn’t want much fanfare but we reached a compromise because we felt her life was so worth celebrating.

The Lord wants us to enjoy our lives here on earth and to share with loved ones the occasions that call for celebration.

Jesus wants to be at the centre of our lives because He is the great Joy Giver.

There are times of sadness and discouragement, too, and those times can steal our joy if we are not careful.

In John10:10 Jesus said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Perhaps you think that focusing on celebrations is a time-consuming task and it just be easier to keep things simple.

I am not saying that we should overdo things, but only that we purposely, deliberately give attention to the joys and milestones of life because that is cause to celebrate.

So, get off that sofa of discontent and put away that grudge bag (as one of my friends calls it) and get on with that abundant living that Jesus wants you to have.

Include Him in the festivities if you want the most satisfying time of all!
