‘Society and the Garden of Addictions: Digging up Roots’ – that is the theme for this year’s Chatham-Kent Addictions Awareness Conference.
Spearheaded by the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Mental Health & Addictions Program, Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton-Kent Branch, Westover Treatment Centre and Restorative Justice Chatham-Kent, this collaborative effort has attracted over 900 community members and service providers collectively during its four previous conferences.
Dr. Benedikt Fischer, international leader in his fields of research on illicit and prescription drug use, will shed light on how to address the legalization of marijuana and how to develop policy. Molly Bannerman, researcher focusing on restorative justice, will discuss how to reduce community-based conflict and incarceration among drug users and the importance on incorporating restorative justice in drug using communities.
The purpose of this conference is to provide ongoing education to service providers and community members alike in regards to the realm of addictions. By peeling back the layers of addiction, participants gain valuable insight into its various root causes. With this knowledge, they are better equipped to assist those struggling with addictions in the Chatham-Kent community.
The event will be held on Thursday, November 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Club Lentinas in Chatham.
