With Remembrance Day coming up on Friday, the Santa Clause Parade in Wallaceburg coming up on Saturday and Christmas seemingly around the corner, I need to bring up the notion of decorating ahead of the December 25th extravaganza.

When is it appropriate to put up the Christmas tree, turn on the Christmas lights and hang the wreaths on your front doors?

I’ve heard many people say that you should wait until after Remembrance Day, out of respect for our Veterans.

I’ve heard others say to wait until at least December 1.

While many folks are content to replace and swap out the pumpkins and goblins of Halloween with Jingle Bells and candy canes.

Personally, it doesn’t offend me if people decorate for Christmas early, but we always wait until after November 11th to do so.

I know veterans fought for our freedom, and I suppose that freedom includes being able to decorate whenever people may choose.

What do you think?

‘Indians’ given the thumbs up

In a close vote last week, it appears the majority of our readers feel it is alright if sports team use the word ‘Indians’ as their nickname. Here are the results:

Should sports teams use ‘Indians’ as their team name?

Yes 55.36% (62 votes)

No 44.64% (50 votes)

Total Votes: 112

We brought this poll question up after Alvinston Minor Baseball launched a campaign to re-name their team name recently.

Well that story took off and gathered national and international attention.

In just five days, the organization reached their $29,000 goal on their GoFundMe page.

They will now be able to purchase new uniforms, equipment and signage for their organization.

Kudos to their organization!

T-Shirts available at Anita’s Riverfront Grille in Marine City, Michigan (Aaron Hall)

I couldn’t help but chuckle when I spotted this shirt hanging up at Anita’s in Marine City on Monday evening.

This U.S. Election has been quite the spectacle, and the world will find out tonight whether Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States.

I have to wonder if this ‘Nobody’ on the shirt would gather more votes than the two leading candidates if placed on the ballot.

It will be interesting to follow this evening.
