‘Experience the Trades’ event coming to Bradley Centre

Lambton Kent District School Board is co-hosting an “Experience the Trades” event on November 16-17 at the Chatham-Kent John D. Bradley Convention Centre, along with four other local school boards and the Municipality of Chatham Kent, to showcase careers in apprenticeable trades.

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Coordinators from the five school boards are co-hosting the event.

Featured guest speakers include: Yvonne Pilon, President and CEO, WEtech Alliance; Eric Janssen, Chief Revenue Officer, Intellitix; and Nour Hachem, Project Manager, St. Clair College.

Participating schools from the Lambton Kent District School Board will be attending during the school days to learn about careers in four sectors: motive power, service, industrial and construction. Parents and students in Grades 7-12 are invited to attend a special evening session on Wednesday, November 16 from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

“It is important to expose students to a variety of career options in order to expand their post-secondary school horizons and assist with career planning,” said Jim Costello, Director of Education, Lambton Kent District School Board. “This showcase gives students an opportunity to speak with tradespeople about their chosen profession and engage in experiential learning.”

Parents and teens will have the opportunity to engage with local organizations to learn about educational opportunities, employment, supports and programs related to future careers in the trades.

There will also be an opportunity to listen to speakers discussing to the future of trades professions in the region.
