Shoppers eagerly anticipating the Wallaceburg BIA Holiday Open House on Thursday can expect the downtown construction to be wrapped up.

Paolo Magliaro, an Engineering Technologist with the Municipality, told the Sydenham Current on Tuesday morning the second phase of sidewalk construction will be completed in plenty of time for Thursday’s event.

“We’ve brought in extra crew members to do the work to make sure that is is cleared up by Thursday,” he said.

“We’ll pour everything today and it will be wrapped up by tomorrow.”

He said there is no curb work to be done for this portion of the construction, which allowed this phase to be streamlined.

Magliaro said the Municipality is aware of the BIA event scheduled for Thursday.

“We know how important these type of events are for the community,” he said.

“The businesses have been good to deal with throughout this project.”

Magliaro said there will be one day of work to be done to completely finish the second phase, which will extend from Myers Insurance and down to the Municipal building.

However, he said this won’t take place until after the BIA holiday event.

Downtown James Street will be closed to vehicle traffic on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The open house is slated to take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event will feature in-store promotions, draws, visits from Santa and his elves, horse and carriage rides, Christmas carolers and a chance to win $250 in BIA bucks.
