Truck driver faces impaired driving charges

A Manitoba truck driver faces impaired driving charges after a crash on the 401.

Chatham-Kent OPP officials say on December 14, around 9:30 p.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 near Kent Bridge Road. A tow truck was setting up to remove a vehicle, from the centre median, when a transport truck collided with the tow truck.

While speaking with the driver of the transport truck, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol.

The driver was transported to detachment for breath tests.

Upon further investigation, the male driver, a 49-years-old of Ste Anne, Manitoba , was charged with drive while ability impaired, and drive motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with: fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle or tow truck – if safe to do so and drive motor vehicle with open container of alcohol.

The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on January 13, 2017 to answer to the charges.

Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is actively monitoring the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.

  1. If a doctor went to work and performed surgery after consuming alcohol, he would loose his medical license. This trucker should never be able to get behind the wheel of a truck of any size, ever.
