A local family is smiling today after a pair of Port Lambton girls paid a visit to the children’s hospital in London this weekend.

Emma VanRuymbeke and Sophia Burgess, seven and six-years-old, visited Hayden Foulon at the Ronald McDonald House on Saturday and donated their birthday gifts to the four-year-old girl, who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

“We had two very sweet and beautiful little girls, as well as their awesome mommies, come visit Hayden,” Hayden’s family posted to the ‘Go Team Hayden’ Facebook page.

“This is Emma and Sophia, and even though today was their birthday, they decided to gather toys and gifts in the Wallaceburg area for the Ronald McDonald House, as well as our sweet Hayden. There was so many amazing goodies for all of us. To these sweet little ladies and their families… as well as the people of Wallaceburg, thank you for all of the donations of toys, gift cards, and monetary donations. You have all helped make this Christmas so much brighter for Hayden and our family.”

Kaylen Burgess, Sophia’s mom, told the Sydenham Current earlier this month a ‘dance party’ themed birthday, with all of the Grade 1 and 2 girls from Sacred Heart in Port Lambton, was planned for Sophia and Emma.

All of their friends and family were asked to bring an unwrapped gift to donate to a child at the Ronald McDonald House.

Kaylen said the birthday party plans were made back in October, but then an unexpected turn took place.

“We learned that a little girl who we have all been cheering on for the past two years had sadly relapsed,” she said.

Hayden is currently undergoing chemo therapy treatments in London.

“We read an article on the ‘Go Team Hayden’ Facebook page and immediately wanted to do something special for this little girl and her family,” Kaylen said.

“We wanted to do something to help take away the added stress of Christmas in an already stressful situation. We want to make sure Hayden has a great Christmas this year and we are asking for the help of this great community.”

Kaylen, along with Sophia’s mom Casie, made the trip to London on Saturday to give the donations to the Ronald McDonald House, and to Hayden
