Wallaceburg hosts Tartan Invitational swim meet

The Wallaceburg Tartans hosted a successful event on December 13, as the Tartan Invitational swim meet was held at the Sydenham District Pool.

Wallaceburg’s Shona Branton, Chelsey Johnson, Tallie Laprise and Emily Tapp each won two individual events at the meet.

Branton won the open girls’ 100 breaststroke event, clocking in at 1:10.90 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:30.00.

Johnson won the senior girls’ 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.59 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke with time of 1:09.90.

Laprise won the senior girls’ 100 IM, recording a time of 1:14.26 and the 100 freestyle race, finishing in 1:03.65.

Tapp won the junior girls’ 100 IM with a time of 1:19.76 and the 50 backstroke at 36.18.

Four other Wallaceburg swimmers won races as well.

Kristopher Chauvin won in the senior boys’ 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.68, Amanda Metayer captured the senior girls’ 200 freestyle race in a time of 2:37.98, Megan Maxim was first in the senior girls’ 50 butterfly with a time of 32.41, and Zoe Broadbent won the junior girls’ 100 freestyle event in a time of 1:20.73.

The Tartans will next be heading to Hawaii to participate in the Kalani Invitational on December 29 and December 30.

Cardinals win in boys hoops

Kaelin Hunt poured in 20 points on Thursday night, as the Lambton-Kent Cardinals topped St. Francois-Xavier 63-29 in senior boys basketball action.

Skyler Simmons chipped in with 16 points.

The Cardinals are now 4-2 on the season, good enough for third place in the LKSSAA Tier 2 Division entering the holiday break.

High school curling action

The Wallaceburg Tartans varsity boys and girls curling teams were busy this week on the local rinks.

The girls team fell to the Chatham-Kent #1 team by a score of 6-3 on Monday.

On Wednesday, the girls turned it around and topped the Blenheim #2 squad 9-6.

In boys action, the Tartans topped the Chatham-Kent #1 team 9-1 on Monday.

The Blenheim #2 team doubled up the Tartans on Wednesday by a score of 6-3.
