Update: Home invasion suspect identified

The accused 30-year-old male in connection to the home invasion on Overlea Crescent in Sarnia has been identified as Kevin Simpson.

Simpson faces a long list of charges as a result.

Sarnia Police officials say on January 1 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Overlea Crescent regarding a home invasion involving weapons.

This investigation led officers to the 300 block of Alexandra Street in Point Edward in coordination with the Ontario Provincial Police.

On this same date, at approximately 8:20 p.m., Sarnia Police Service executed a search warrant at this location.

SImpson was located in the residence, arrested and held for a bail hearing.

He has since been remanded into custody and formerly charged with the following offences:

– Break and Enter and Commit Assault x4

– Assault with a weapon x4 (pepper spray)

– Assault with a weapon (firearm)

– Assault Causing Bodily Harm – Administering a Noxious Thing (pepper spray) x4

– Mischief – Interfering with Lawful Use, Enjoyment or Operation of Property

– Theft Under $5,000

– Breach of Recognizance x3

– Use Firearm While Committing Indictable Offence

– Point Firearm

– Unauthorized Possession of Firearm

– Firearm – Having Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession

– Possess Firearm While Prohibited

The Sarnia Police Service would like to advise the public that this incident was not a random act and that the persons involved were known to each other.

Three weapons used in the home invasion have been recovered including a knife, pepper spray and a camouflaged Winchester 12 gauge pump action shotgun.

A handgun allegedly used in this case remains unaccounted for.

The investigation continues at this time.

The Sarnia Police Service would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this matter or may have any information to share with respect to this incident.

Two male suspects in connection with this case have not yet been identified.

Police are also attempting to locate the lawful owner of the shotgun described above.

Gun owners are being asked to check their inventory for any missing firearms.
