Counterfeit currency discovered in Lambton County

The OPP are issuing a public advisory after some counterfeit currency was discovered in Lambton County.

Police officials say un Tuesday January 24, the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two separate locations within the Town of Petrolia regarding suspected counterfeit currency.

At approximately 9 a.m., the Lambton OPP attended a commercial property in the 4000 block of Petrolia Line in relation to suspected counterfeit currency. Upon arrival, police were handed what was suspected to be a counterfeit U.S. $100 dollar bill. Examination of the bill, by OPP, determined that the bill was a counterfeit bank note.

At just after 2 p.m., Lambton OPP attended a commercial property in the 4100 block of Petrolia Line again in relation to suspected counterfeit currency. Upon arrival, police were handed what was suspected to be a counterfeit U.S. $100 dollar bill. Examination of this bank note determined it to be counterfeit as well.

Both counterfeit bank notes have been seized by OPP and investigation is on-going.

OPP are reminding the public making or passing counterfeit notes is a criminal offence.
