Emergency crews were at the scene of a fatal crash on the 401 in Essex on Tuesday afternoon.
Essex OPP officials say on February 7, 2017 at approximately 4 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County responded to a multi vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Tunnel #5 north of the Todd Lane overpass.
Police were on scene investigating the collision involving three tractor trailer units and one Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
One person is confirmed deceased and further details will be released upon next of kin notification.
Highway 401 at exit 7 was closed for westbound traffic and was set to remain closed for several hours as the OPP’s Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) completed the investigation.
