Carbon Dioxide spilled on Hwy. 40 after crash

Carbon Dioxide was spilled onto Highway 40, after a transport crashed near Sarnia on Tuesday.

Lambton OPP officials say today at 4:30 p.m. officers responded to Highway 40 northbound in the area of Degurse Drive in Sarnia to investigate a single motor vehicle collision.

Investigation has revealed that a transport truck and trailer loaded with Carbon Dioxide was travelling north bound on Highway 40 in the area of Degurse Drive when it entered an on- ramp attempting to travel east bound on Highway 40. As the transport truck and trailer entered the on- ramp it lost control and tipped onto its side.

The driver was taken to hospital.

The OPP remain on scene as the on-ramp for east bound Highway 40 in the area of Degurse Drive remains closed as the Carbon Dioxide is safely contained and the transport truck and trailer are removed.

The OPP are requesting that motorists avoid the area of Highway 40 and Degurse Drive.

It is expected that the affected roadway closure will be re-opened at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday

The investigation is ongoing.
