Wallaceburg woman arrested after shoplifting incident

A Wallaceburg woman faces charges after a shoplifting incident in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say last night just after 10 p.m. a woman was inside the Real Canadian Superstore located at 791 St. Clair Street in Chatham.

She was observed filling up a shopping cart with a variety of merchandise valued at $1,400.

The woman walked passed the cashiers, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise and left the store.

When a store employee approached the woman outside of the store, she ran to her car and drove away, leaving the cart full of merchandise behind.

The store employee obtained the license plate number of the vehicle and police were called.

Through investigation, police learned the woman’s name and address.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

She was released with a court date of March 10, 2017.
