Update: ‘Minor explosion’ at Accurcast

Wallaceburg firefighters responded to a “minor explosion” at Accurcast in Wallaceburg on Wednesday morning.

Approximately $2,000 damage was caused inside the 333 Arnold Street factory after the minor blast.

“Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire caused from a smelting furnace explosion in the rear industrial area of the building,” said Ric Scharf, assistant chief.

“The factory was swiftly and efficiently evacuated.”

Scharf added there was minimal damage and no injuries.

Chatham-Kent Police and EMS also responded to the scene.

Fireifghters from Station #3 in Wallaceburg, Station #5 in Tupperville and Station #2 in Chatham all responded to the incident.

The Ministry of Labour, TSSA and the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management have all been notified.

Approximately $3 million in property was saved, fire officials said.
