A massive power outage in Michigan kept the Sombra ferry docked for nearly a day, but it is now back in operation.
Sources tell the Sydenham Current that the Bluewater Ferry is running once again between Sombra and Marine City.
Strong winds on Wednesday knocked out power for over 800,000 customers across Michigan.
“DTE’s restoration teams are fully mobilized and working 24/7 to restore power to all customers,” DTE Energy officials said.
“So far, we’ve restored more than 50% of the 800,000 customers impacted. Customers will receive restoration estimates as crews are assigned to assess and repair damage in their area. We fully expect to restore at least 90% of outages by 11:30 p.m. on Sun., March 12. We know outages are difficult and we thank you for your continued patience.”
Port Lambton resident Bob Murphy told the Sydenham Current travelers were being held up in the United States for over an hour on Friday.
A “power outage in Marine City (was) forcing U.S. customs to board the ferry and collect IDs and call them in individually into Sarnia instead of the normal scan,” Murphy said.
Bluewater Ferry officials shut down the Sombra-based ferry shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday.
St. Clair County Michigan officials say community needs assessments are ongoing to determine current and future health, safety, sheltering, and feeding needs.
