An Ohio man faces impaired driving charges after a traffic stop on the 401 in Chatham-Kent.
OPP officials say on March 31 at around 9:45 p.m. an officer was on general patrol eastbound on Highway 401 near Communication Road, when they observed a silver Honda Pilot committing a traffic violation.
The vehicle was stopped and while speaking with the driver, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol.
The driver was transported to detachment for further tests.
Upon further investigation, the driver, a 31-year-old man from Powell, Ohio, was charged the following:
– Fail or refuse to provide a sample, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada;
– Driving while ability impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada;
– Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act; and
– Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.
The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 18, 2017 to answer to the charges.
Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is actively monitoring the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
