A Walpole Island student was the centre of attention recently during a ‘Celebrity Reading Day’ at Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig.

The special day was held on February 16, as several family members and friends came to read to the students.

Caydence Redman had a special surprise when Heather Dunlop, a Wallaceburg author and a friend of Caydence, came to read a story to her Grade 4 class about Caydence in the book she co-authored, Breezes, Currents and Sighs.

Heather was invited to the Powwow last May when Caydence did her first jingle dress dance.

Heather wrote a story about the experience in the book, which was just published in January in collaboration with the Sydenham Story Tellers, a group of seven local authors.

The reading day was held to help promote literacy and was attended by several other readers, including Ed Taylor and Donna Miskokomon.

Caydence was also presented with her own copy of the book.

The Sydenham Story Tellers will be at the Wallaceburg Library on April 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a special reading night to promote Breezes, Currents and Sighs.

The authors will be available to share their stories and autograph the book as well.
