‘KD dominoes’ at Holy Family in Wallaceburg (Video)

Approximately 400 boxes of Kraft Dinner turned into a long row of dominoes at Holy Family Catholic School in Wallaceburg on Thursday morning.

Phil Bedard, principal at the school, told the Sydenham Current the boxes were gathered by the students during the six-week-long season of Lent and will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Bedard said the school sets up an annual challenge for the students during this time of year.

“To be able to give something back to people that are in need,” he said.

“We did this similar challenge last year where the students brought in Kraft Dinner and mac and cheese boxes. So we decided to line them up down the hallway at the end of Lent to create a big domino.”

“This has a two-fold effect, obviously because not only is it charity and giving and almsgiving, but the students in their classes as they brought these in would build structures out of them, so there is some geometry and mathematics with it,” he said.

“And also it is a nice, entertaining culmination to end it and show them. It’s a good tangible way for them to see the work they have done, how much they have collected because they can see it. It has lots of layers to it as far as its effectiveness for the students, its all theirs and it is good for the community too.”
