Girl hit by van, police looking for witnesses

Police are looking to speak to witnesses after a girl was hit by a van in Chatham this morning.

Chatham-Kent Police Setvice officials say at approximately 9 a.m. a young girl was struck by a black-coloured mini-van at the intersection of Sandys Street and McNaughton Avenue in Chatham.

Police officials say according to one witness, the driver of that minivan appeared to be an older man with grey hair.

The driver initially stopped to make sure the young girl was fine, police allege.

Since the young girl did not sustain any injuries, both she and the driver continued on their separate ways without contacting the police.

An officer has since spoken to the young girl and to the girl’s family to confirm her well-being.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to speak with any other witnesses to this incident, as well as the driver of the minivan who is unknown at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Nicole Kadour at nicolek@chatham-kent.ca or 519-352-1234.

Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
