Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Someone once said, “Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.”

I attend a special pastors’ conference in a large church in Michigan every December.

There is a man there who leads the singing and worship times.

His voice is absolutely golden.

I found out from one of the church members, however, that this was not always the case.

It seems that Craig used to have one of those voices that couldn’t carry a tune in a bushel basket.

His earliest efforts were met with resounding skepticism from his wife and others who were close to him.

They appreciated his desire to sing but wondered if he could make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

Craig kept trying, though, and in time, with the help of others, he eventually accomplished his goal of leading worship at his church.

Honestly, to hear this man sing, I would never have guessed he had such a long road to his success.

I like the encouraging words of Psalm 18:28-29, which says: “You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.”

Well, what walls are standing in the way of your accomplishments today?

Those walls may seem formidable, even unscalable, but with God helping you things can quickly change.

Craig had a desire in his heart, but lacked a bit of training to see it come to pass.

Once he decided to try, others came along in his life and helped him meet his goal.

You can do the same, but remember: you have to be willing to try!
