Heavy police presence on Walpole Island

Details are limited at the moment, but a heavy police presence was seen on Walpole Island First Nation on Sunday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police officers were spotted by the Sydenham Current on Chiefs Road at Austin Road, where the road was blocked.

Two of the officers were standing outside of a cruiser, carrying large guns.

A van from the OPP Forensic Unit was also at the location.

Several other cruisers from the Walpole Island Police Department and the OPP were also seen parked in the Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig school parking lot at around 9:30 a.m.

Const. Travis Parsons from the Lambton OPP told the Sydenham Current on Sunday afternoon that he was working on getting details that he could share.

Many rumours were circulating in the community throughout the day, however the police have yet to confirm any details.

We’ll provide more information after it becomes available.
