Twice the legal limit in St. Clair Township

A St. Clair Township man faces impaired driving charges after being stopped by the police on Sunday evening.

OPP officials say on Sunday July 9th, 2017 at just before 7:30 p.m. the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the area of Moore Line in St. Clair Township.

Members of the Lambton OPP conducted patrols and a short time later observed the suspect vehicle turning eastbound onto St. Clair Boulevard in St. Clair Township.

OPP conducted a traffic stop and made contact with a lone adult male driver.

In speaking with the driver, police officials say the OPP officer formed the opinion that the driver was impaired due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP – Corunna Detachment for breath testing which resulted in alleged readings over twice the legal limit.

The driver, a 40-year-old St. Clair Township man, was charged with:

– Driving While Ability Impaired

– Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood

The accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on Monday July 31st, 2017.

The OPP is again reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
