Update: One person has died following a crash between three transports on the 402.
On July 19, 2017 at 12:10 p.m. members of the Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the 402 Highway west bound in the area of Indian Road, City of Sarnia to investigate a commercial motor vehicle collision.
Investigation revealed that a west bound transport truck had collided into a row of stopped transport trucks that had been waiting to cross the Bluewater Bridge in an attempt to enter the United States.
Although the investigation is ongoing, the OPP, in consultation with the Regional Coroner’s Office can confirm that the driver involved in the initial collision is deceased. The driver’s name will not be released pending additional investigation and notification of the next-of-kin.
The Sarnia and Point Edward Fire Departments, OPP- Technical Traffic Collision Investigators and Towing Services remain on scene. The other two transport truck drivers were not injured. There are no environmental concerns.
The 402 Highway west bound will remain closed at 40 Highway pending the completion of the initial investigation and removal of the damaged transport trucks and their trailers. At this time it is unknown how long the Highway will be closed. The OPP is asking that all traffic avoid the 402 Highway up to and including 40 Highway pending the completion of the investigation. All commercial traffic is asked to avoid crossing into the United States pending the re-opening of the highway as attempts are being made to avoid unnecessary commercial traffic within the City of Sarnia.
