Life threatening injuries for Wallaceburg cyclist

A Wallaceburg cyclist is facing life threatening injuries after allegedly crashing into a vehicle late last month.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say a man was on a bicycle when he allegedly crashed into a car, that was passing through the intersection at Duncan Street and Wall Street in Wallaceburg.

Police say the incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 29.

A witness told the police that a red car had stopped at the four-way stop intersection and began moving through, when a cyclist came into the intersection and hit the vehicle, police allege.

The 33-year-old cyclist was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment.

He was later transferred to Windsor’s Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital after tests showed that the man was suffering from serious head injuries, police say.

The investigation has been completed and charges will not be laid, police officials confirmed.

Published reports indicate the man remains in critical condition.
