Basso’s No Frills in Wallaceburg has helped raise over $3,000 for two programs, which supports Veterans in Ontario.

Barry Boughner was stationed outside of the Wallaceburg grocery store recently gathering donations.

The store also gathered donations through their ‘Give A Little’ campaign.

“It is fantastic,” Boughner told the Sydenham Current.

“I usually sit outside and ask for donations for the St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation, for the two Veterans programs at Parkwood Hospital in London, Ontario. It is our only hospital for our Veterans in all of Southwestern Ontario. We have Parkwood in London, we have Sunnybrook in Toronto and then there is the Veterans Hospital in Ottawa. From Kitchener all the way to Windsor, there is only one hospital for Veterans.”

Boughner said Rob Basso, owner of of the Wallaceburg No Frills location, offered to take donations through the till for those people that only use debit cards.

“I don’t have a debit machine, so Rob decided that we would take a $2 donation to help out our Veterans at Parkwood Hospital. I think he raised in the neighbourhood of $1,800 in a couple of weeks which is fantastic.”

Boughner said the total of the donations at the No Frills in Wallaceburg reached over $3,000.

“I think a lot of people don’t know that there is only one hospital for Veterans in all of Southwestern Ontario,” he said.

“There is two programs at Parkwood. One is for World War II and Korean Veterans and the other program is for any Veteran from any war past, present, future and also RCMP officers.”
