Alleged copper wire thief arrested in Wallaceburg

A Wallaceburg man faces charges after allegedly stealing some copper wiring.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege that in April 2016, a man attended a scrap metal company in Wallaceburg and handed in coiled copper wire that had been stripped from its casing.

The man was given money in exchange for the copper wire and left.

The scrap metal company was then made aware that wiring had been cut from several transport trailers within the same Wallaceburg area and police were called.

Through investigation, officers were able to identify the man and confirm that the copper wire brought into the scrap metal company was the same wiring that had been cut from the transport trailers.

Due to the unknown whereabouts of the man, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Last night at 7:30 p.m. a 30-year-old Wallaceburg man was located, arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000.

He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a court date of Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
