Failing to comply with release conditions

A pair of local men are in trouble after not complying with their original release conditions.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials say in August 2017, a man was released from custody for the offence of uttering threats.

One of his release conditions was not to attend any place or residence of a woman that is known to him.

On Sunday, October 22, police allege that the man was observed walking directly in front of the woman’s house and police were called.

The man left the area prior to the arrival of police and a warrant was issued for his arrest as his whereabouts were unknown, police say.

Last night at 11 p.m. the 36-year-old Wallaceburg man was located in Sombra Township and arrested on the warrant.

He was charged with failing to comply and was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.

In a separate incident, back in May of this year, a man was released from custody with conditions.

One of his conditions was not to attend a specific address in Wallaceburg.

Police allege on October 4 the man attended the address and it was reported to police.

Due to the man also being on conditions to reside on Walpole Island, which is outside the jurisdiction of CKPS, a warrant was issued for his arrest, police say.

Police allage on Sunday night at 11 p.m. a 30-year-old Walpole Island man attended the police station and turned himself in.

He was arrested on the warrant and charged with failing to comply.

He was later released with a court date of Friday, November 10, 2017.
